MARSHALL BOWMAN FAMILY LAND RECORDS:

1) MARSHALL BOWMAN:

- Aug., 28, 1805: a grant for 153 acres on the West side of
Cole River, in Kanawha Co., (W) VA. By virtue of Land
Office Treasury Warrant No. 3,352, issued Feb. 1, 1802, to
Joseph Smith. Grants, 54, p. 236-238, In the Library of VA
on-line, Land Office Patents and Grants.
In Sims Index to Land Grants in WV, p. 348: Bowman,
Marshall: 1805, 153 acres W. side Coal River- Kanawha Co.,
(W) VA Deed Bk. 1, p. 357.

This is the land he sold to James King on Sept 12, 1839, for $800.
It could be where he and Behethland lived before going to Missouri.

The location of "the house of the late Marshal Bowman," is
given in Kanawha Co., WV Deed Bk. N, p. 403, on Dec. 24,
1841, between James King and wife Mary, to Marshall's son,
John Bowman, for $100 for land on Coal River which was part
of a tract James King had bought from Marshall (Sept 12, 1839,
Deed Bk L, p. 71). The deed of Dec. 24, 1841, recorded on Dec.
2, 1843, also mentions "the grave yard," which could be the
old family cemetery.

- Sept. 12, 1839, Marshall and Behethland made their last
deed selling for $800 to James King and wife Mary all the
tract he got in the Aug. 28, 1805 grant on Coal River (except 40
acres which were sold to son John Bowman in 1836), about 113
acres.

>From the deed selling all the land, it appears that she and
Marshall had planned to leave for good and move to Benton
County, Missouri, to be with some of their children who had
settled there (sons Lusby and Tobimas were there in 1840
Census, and Lindsay and Zachariah had moved there before
the 1850 Census).
